They can try to expand out the definitions, be less racist/misogynistic/etc. They are sometimes successful at this, but it takes a lot of capital and there's diminishing returns at some point with losing more of their core identities for the increasingly diverse outliers.

So they're stuck with the hooting CHUDS and give in to their fancies, even at sometimes suicidal-seeming political cost. Now with Democrats, they're nominally the Party for everyone who's not that specific kind of person. Seems great if you want to hold power in at least sometimes democratic system
