Capitalism works because it motivates. But there’s no upper limit. No amount of profit will ever be enough profit, so unrestrained and unregulated, it will roll over everything until it destroys everything including itself.

That’s the point of progressive tax rates that used to go all the way up. You make it harder and harder to make more money and eventually it’s not worth it to people to keep trying. And in the meantime while they try, governments get money to mitigate the damage done to society.

I now think β€œcapitalism” only works at smaller scale, but once the economy grows big enough somebody is gonna start monopolizing.
