you know the old story about the true believer in the flood? he sees a report on the news that it's going to flood, and discounts it because god will save him. as the water rises a rescue boat comes by, but he ignores it because god will save him.

as the flood forces him onto his roof, he sees a rescue helicopter go by, but he doesn't signal for help because god will save him. the water keeps rising, and he drowns. at the pearly gates, he asks god "i kept my faith and trusted you. why didn't you save me?"
