I think he's more talking about the fact that peaceful protest doesn't always bring change. Sometimes you have to stir shit up to get attention to important issues. There is merit to that for sure. I just think coating the senator who opposes climate legislations homes in crude oil might do better

It was easy to sympathize with e.g. someone refusing to sit in a segragated seat on a bus, or in segregated parts of restaurants, etc, to protest segregation. People with sympathy to civil rights issues see that and it captures their sympathy. This 100% unambiguously drives people *off* the issue.
