I also think EDM doesn't put up as many barriers to entry as other genres do for both artists and listeners. I once watched a doc where a college radio dj called it the most democratic style of music of something like that

For sure. Which is only to say that it's a populist medium! And that's good! I think at heart there's this perception that music is only good for certain things and that getting high and dancing around is considered kind of...not accomplished enough, like it's a bad use of music
