Democrats can retake North Carolina’s Supreme Court in 2028 if they win 4 of 5 races by then: 1 Dem is up in 2024, another in 2026, & 3 Rs in 2028. But if the GOP extends current terms from 8 to 12 years, no GOP justices would face voters again until 2032, enabling more years of GOP gerrymandering

North Carolina GOP's proposal would trick voters by adopting a two 12-year term limit, but just 2 justices in the past century have served >24 years & none since 1962.
They already must retire by age 76—the GOP raised it from 72 in 2023 to keep the GOP chief justice www.dailykos.com/story/2023/1...
