“Trump's political career has been one long demonstration that the legal structures that were supposed to be the bedrock of the rule of law are worthless. Impeachment was no match for a…political party. The Emoluments Clause and the Insurrection Clause are words…the Supreme Court chose not to read…”
Far too much of our government seemed to rely upon those serving in government being honorable people. That left us with no ability to handle the corruption that we've seen.
“…What caught up w/ Donald Trump was not the majesty of the republic but a civil suit for… assaulting someone in a department-store changing room & lying about it, & another civil suit for cooking the books on his property assessments, & now the criminal charges for covering up…hush-money payments…”
The verdict was a real miracle when you consider that 12 jurors, 34 counts gave Trump 408 chances to get a not guilty vote and he lost them all!
Can't a reporter pin down Johnson or McConnell with one simple question. Was he guilty of the charges? If yes then where is their problem?
Wow what a great article. Really gets at the meat of it. And sweet in a way that Trump's longterm business and personal malfeasance is what is getting its hooks into him. The "Presidential" stuff is an open question, but his long history of just being a shitty person is catching up with him.
