After trying to shoot the N. American nebula last night and failing (huge outflow brought some high winds) I'm reminded how close to capacity my mount is with my setup. Poor mount couldn't keep up :(

New astro from yours truly!

The Dragon of Sadr is a stretch of gas and dust spread over 25 full moons across the sky - this is just their head! This false color image was shot w/ a Hα & Oxygen III filter.

I wonder how many critter-themed subjects I can image this summer...

Sure, though at the same time trying it just once might not tell you much. When I first started I lasted less than 30 minutes. Now I can casually do a couple hours without discomfort.

I'm not convinced either way that is the intent, and even if that's the case, you can sign up with a psuedonym and not even give them payment credentials (especially if you're only doing PCVR). None of the "real name" bs of Facebook.

The contrast and clarity difference between the Index and QPro is pretty dramatic. Local dimming is pretty great for dark VRChat worlds. That alone has reduced the brain fatigue after VR.

So any of you VR nerds looking for a cheap and decent headset and are willing to sell part of your soul, Quest Pros can be had for $400-600 used. Just nabbed one for wireless face and eye tracking, and while the controllers suck, with some effort it can all work with FBT and Index controllers.

Space telescopes get a lot of praise and the photos and discoveries are stunning, but nothing quite makes it as real as seeing and capturing it yourself.

Not too long I think. About a month on this rig, but I've been a photographer for years. This kind of stuff is more technical and needs a good understanding of the equipment vs regular photography. Fortunately it's been getting a lot easier with the tutorials and software out there.

It is pretty incredible. This particular object is the farthest thing you can see in the sky without a telescope. Something like 2.5 million ly, or 25 Milky Way galaxies away. It's just that big and bright.

For comparison, this is what a raw 2 minute exposure looks like under Denver skies. Really seems impossible to get anything from that, doesn't it?

Thought I'd try an easy no-filter target last night. About the best one can do from the city, but it's still amazing what you can get. The individual raw frames were bright white from all the light pollution. Andromeda Galaxy, ~5.5 hour integration.
