We’ve also tried the “dont vote bc neither candidate is good enough” thing twice in my life and it hasn’t worked.

Arguably that's precisely what led to this exact situation.
And if you want it spelled out, Paul Weyrich, founder of the Heritage Foundation (who created Project 2025) says in 1980 he doesn't want everyone to vote.
