Every Juneteeth you get a flood of Canadian accounts boasting about how proud they are that unlike the US, Canada didn't have slavery. When it did and also it still has prison labor to this day. Indigenous people are also dramatically overrepresented in the prison system

Lots of Canadians know nothing about the history of their own country. I highly recommend Dr. Charmaine Nelson’s work on the history of slavery in Canada.

And the foster care system. (Canadian here.) We might have abolished slavery sooner but former slaves who moved to Canada found it less hospitable than the northern USA, where they ‘knew their place.’ I think the number of Canadians who act snooty about it are probably not a majority.

Also didn't the residential school issue get pushed under the rug after some thoughts and prayers from Trudeau? Canada is still basically America's preppy little sister on that front too
