Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial was released 42 years ago (yesterday). It was the very first film I saw at the cinema, when I was 3 or 4. It's also my oldest memory: crying as I left the theater. In fact, I'm still crying. 😅

I've only seen it once, but that was enough. I agree with Ron Cobb's assessment of it: it's far too schmaltzy, and one of Spielberg's most cynical grabs for audience heartstrings. (It certainly made Cobb a lot of money for *not* directing it, though!)
