Scottish fact: The thistle is a symbol of Scotland because Norse invaders in 1263 tried to surprise sleeping Scotsman and removed their footwear to move more stealthily. When they stepped on thistles, though, their shrieks alerted the Scots to their presence and hilarity ensued.
