If you want to know more about Ted Taylor, read “The Curve of Binding Energy” by McPhee. It’s really a great book describing the education and career of a really eccentric and brilliant man who now worries constantly about a clandestine group building a fission bomb. It’s doable from public info.

I know it well. And I was fortunate to get to meet Ted Taylor a couple of times in the 1980s.

2 years later, that book inspired a physics student at Princeton to design one for a class. Which he did. Not because he was brilliant, but because he was doing badly and needed to pull up his grade.
