The last two times I had that experience were the original Carrie, and Aguirre the Wrath of God. Two stunning films I'd never seen, undimmed by decades of hype & ubiquitous cultural citations (or in the latter case, just being a staple of revival cinemas my whole life that I foolishly ignored).

Honestly I started watching (not rewatching) Hidden Fortress and couldn't get into it quite as much. So was relieved Yojimbo lived up to my memories.
