But I think most of the devs saw how twitter was failing as a result of not doing the very things folks were asking, bleeding users that bluesky would really like to pick up to make the site not just rival twitter, but overtake it.

bluesky was already doing all those things; the main selling point was the portability and moderation tools. a lot of bad actors showed up, created controversy, and demanded bluesky be like twitter, but this time im elon.
