He was a massively influential country/folk singer-songwriter who had a prolific 50 year career and died in 2020 of Covid. Absolutely listen to his self-titled debut album. He wrote brilliantly cutting satire about American life, class inequalities, religious hypocrisy and imperialism.

Grew up listening to his stuff on family car trips. I remember, as an older teen, as the Iraq war started... becoming so incredibly angry that so many of his songs were STILL RELEVANT. "Oh, cool! We've learned NOTHING, HUH."
