Cobwebs has been accused of facilitating fake social media accounts. In 2021, Meta removed 200 fake accounts from Facebook associated with Cobwebs & its customers. (Re “Cyber Mercenaries,” Israeli newspaper Haaretz wrote “Israel’s Spyware Industry is Getting Slammed Around the World.”)

A section of the Meta report reads: “In addition to collecting information about their targets, the accounts used by Cobwebs customers also engaged in social engineering to join closed communities and forums and trick people into revealing personal information.”
