I didn’t read all 570 pages of this, admittedly, but it does define a noncompete clause as “a term or condition of employment [that limits a worker in a number of ways etc etc etc]” — I think that’s the language that would exclude a standard publisher/author relationship. www.ftc.gov/system/files...
