If you get a call from Octagon Library or Richmond Indie Books (both purportedly in Virginia) asking about book orders, be wary. Not sure what the scam is--maybe phishing, maybe fake checks--but Octagon doesn't seem to exist & Richmond Indie has extremely sketchy website www.richmondindiebooks.com

A search of the Virginia Secretary of State's Corporation Commission turned up no records for either Richmond Indie Books nor Octagon Library. Richmond Indie Books claims to be a non-profit, but that's a specific legal status that must be registered with their state.

I live in Richmond - I've never heard of this place before and that address doesn't exist.
