I think I must disagree with you on something fundamental about communication, then, because I think the words you choose to say are the part that should contain the meaning. I’m told I’m kinda autistic though and I do tend to miss stuff on the pragmatics side

Specifically I suck at picking up on the phatic functions of speech, so if there’s a lot of that going on I’m probably legit missing it. However, in this case we don’t actually have to guess at intentions, we can just ask the person who said it
