Too many Americans confuse their own emotions with objective reality. This is the legacy of populism that is so enmeshed in American political discourse. Incumbency is a well documented historical advantage for a political candidate. People often have monumentally stupid ideas when panicking.

I’m not sure it’s a matter of loyalty. I think there are democrats who are tired of leadership taking a back seat while the republicans are running rough shod over our democracy. It’s understood we don’t have the House and slim majority in the Senate but to sit back and say vote doesn’t cut it.
