if they were all held the same day or week, that “small campaigns can make a name for themselves by campaigning really well in early contests” effect would go away, though

i’d like to see publicly funded campaigns for anybody who could gather enough signatures before the primary season. basically reward ground game with access to the ballot, and limit candidates to identical budgets as it is a one day primary would be a coronation for whoever got the big donors’ ears
