I miss when Quintet was pumping out these melancholic RPGs where you play as a lonely messianic demiurge in stories about life, death and the passage of time. You're a protagonist with grandiose protagonist powers, and this isolates you from NPCs who are living ordinary lives.
"You can build this world back up from its ruins, but must accept that it is not your world to live in as you do so. The fruits of your labor are distant and unreachable for you, but that is all the more reason you must continue." is roughly how I read it. The message only gets stronger over time.
Thereβs a lot of moral messages in actraiser that are like bible stories for babies but theyβre cast in such a weird light by the fact that youβre god and everyone is praising you for destroying ecosystems and wiping out rival cults. Itβs very weird and I love it
also actraiser had that absolute bodyslam of a soundtrack. the game itself is good and fun but i remain convinced that the soundtrack is what made it stick in people's imaginations
