I miss when Quintet was pumping out these melancholic RPGs where you play as a lonely messianic demiurge in stories about life, death and the passage of time. You're a protagonist with grandiose protagonist powers, and this isolates you from NPCs who are living ordinary lives.

There’s a lot of moral messages in actraiser that are like bible stories for babies but they’re cast in such a weird light by the fact that you’re god and everyone is praising you for destroying ecosystems and wiping out rival cults. It’s very weird and I love it

also actraiser had that absolute bodyslam of a soundtrack. the game itself is good and fun but i remain convinced that the soundtrack is what made it stick in people's imaginations
