It's impossible to tell how deep floodwaters are until it's too late. The road is sometimes washed out beneath the water. It takes very little water to strand a vehicle, and only a little more to carry it away. Floods are a tropical system's deadliest hazard. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

It’s obviously minor compared to life; but you aren’t likely to save any vehicle either; and even if you don’t ruin the vehicle by sucking water into the engine; you will never clean out the yuck.

There's always these videos of washouts where people walk up to the edge and 'ooh and ahh' over the damage the water is doing, not realizing that what they're standing on could collapse without warning.
