In an unprecedented public address this week, Israel's defense minister demanded that Netanyahu commit to Palestinian governance of Gaza—rather than Israeli settlement or occupation. I wrote about the Israeli defense establishment's open revolt against Netanyahu and his far-right allies:
Every time I read things like this I think to myself “Is *this* going to be the thing that tips it?”
Nothing has so far, but maybe this will, or maybe the culmination of all of these small things will do it?
Who knows?
I remain hopeful though. You have to.
Thanks Yair.
People who have now called out Netanyahu and his government for failing to formulate to a postwar strategy in Gaza and offer a Palestinian governing alternative to Hamas:
-The IDF chief of staff
-The IDF chief spokesman
-The defense minister
Unfortunately, there is no alternative to IDF governance in Gaza, whether Gallant (or Netanyahu) like it or not. The PA can barely govern itself, the UN has shown itself as incompetent peacekeepers, the Gulf states don’t want to get involved either, and the Gazans are overwhelmingly pro-Hamas.
