this framing is, frankly, just so strange to me. Alito is not some Mr. Bean-like social klutz who whoopsy-daisied himself into a regrettable situation. he's a partisan ideologue with extreme views and an acute recognition that he is beyond consequences. it's really that simple.

the thing that strikes me is that thomas and alito are the "rational and reasonable" republican justices in the liberal american imagining, unlike ACB and kavanaugh, because american liberals really want to live in a reality where they aren't in a political war

They're incapable of recognizing the threat or really doing anything that'd hold Republicans accountable because that'd mean acknowledging our institutions aren't there to defend a pluralistic democracy.
