Astrophotography remains a hard hobby, but here is a bit of a - how it started - how it is going - demonstration using two pictures of the Dumbbell Nebula (M27).

The awesome @harbers.bsky.social is 3-D printing a custom-sized Tri-Bahtinov Focusing mask for the 12'' Meade LX600. I am really looking forward trying this out to see if focusing will be easier from now on!

The Meade X-wedge arrived today, to convert the LX600 fork mounts into equatorial mode. Unfortunately, a few tiny but essential parts are missing, so I will have to wait a bit longer for the conversion.

It is on my wish list!!! Especially now that I am getting into longer exposures, the field rotation is starting to become annoying.

Just in case you are curious about my night-sky observation setup, here is the Meade LX600 with CCD attached to the laptop. We are getting some work done in the driveway, so the space is cramped. But still fun!

My first capture of the spiral galaxy M81, or Bode's Galaxy, through the Meade LX600 with a CCD. A hard target, given that most light pollution occurs north of my position.

I just got the Meade ACF 0.68x Focal Reducer and, despite the many clouds, I had to take that first test picture to see the increased field of view (and change from f/8 to faster f/5.5). Now just waiting for clearer skies for better pictures! #astrophotography
