So much that's wrong about our current moment of TV, but the sheer number of 6-10 hour shows that should clearly be (and in the case of Presumed Innocent, actually was) a movie makes me sad. The expectation that we'll trudge through hour after unnecessary hour just because that's the business model.

I felt that way about Ripley. Eight episodes and it seemed like it was getting slower and slower as it went.

I have a soft spot for that three-episode BBC miniseries format. TV honestly feels like a more interesting medium than movies sometimes with how much flexibility there ought to be, when it doesn't get jammed into that full season length and padded to oblivion

Thank you! All those episodes for what could have been a 1.5 -2 hour movie. I make it to episode 3 usually and then just read the synopses. And if it has to be episodic, I’d rather have a tight 3-4 episodes than a thinly spread out 6-10.
