One of my favorite native plants- the Button Bush. If you’re in an area of the US where this occurs naturally, and considering “butterfly bush,” this is a much better, non invasive alternative. Butterflies and bees LOVE it. 🌱 #invertebrates #butterflies

Clover is definitely a step above turf grass :) but to really level up, we let violets grow in ours. Pretty, they handle weather, they host cool butterfly species… and we can eat them. Win win win!

The older I get the less I like them. I do still enjoy the spectacle, but all the idiots destroying the neighborhood and our property, the noise, the fire risk, the smell, and especially the risk to animals just doesn’t seem worthwhile. It’s basically littering with added fire risk and noise.

I’m having trouble finding someone that doesn’t work for big tree companies :/ (We just had to take down a glorious old oak that was mostly dead due to how the prior owners built their garage, so I’m sensitive about any more lol)

Neighbor wants us to cut down this tree, thinks it’s dangerous to his property. This oak is home to all kinds of interesting things, and I’m loathe to do it. It seems healthier than several others on our property despite a hollow at the base and a dead limb. @tomkimmerer.bsky.social thoughts?

Fortunately I don’t feel like I get much eye strain, but do already have a blue light filter for my glasses. But in parts of the building with new lighting, the light just hurts, and if I am anywhere close to a migraine coming it seems to make it worse

(The rest of it is disgustingly too, I don’t mean to downplay it, but almost every facet of actual rural life depends on climate. Not just the crops but insect populations and pollinators, erosion and soil depletion… like. Shouldn’t that be a #1 concern for EVERYONE?)

Honestly this is the part that really flummoxed me. They want to focus on what’s important to rural customers, but emissions and climate aren’t? That protecting the VERY THING that helps ag flourish has become a political football is baffling to me.

They are ALL over my grapes, and even though ours are strictly decorative, they are pissing me off. That said, they are lined off pretty. I’ve seen them encased in lovely resin paperweights, which seems like a good use.
