This a bit surprising at this point, guess it means Shane Baz is up. Civale was going to get expensive next year in arbitration and his numbers haven't justified it. Plus Springs/Rasmussen and (next year) McClanahan are coming back. Wonder what the return will be.

Yep - all those reasons. They did what they had to in the moment, but chuck this into the loss bucket.
