I'm pro-Beatles but my opinion is biased by the fact that after Brian Wilson went off the rails, the Beach Boys rapidly ossified into a nostalgia act. If they had remained as creative as the Beatles, it would have been much closer.

That's really not the case though. Some of their most inventive music was the stuff made between 1968 and 1977, and I would *absolutely* put any album from Sunflower to Love You (except 15 Big Ones) up against any Beatles solo album in the same period.
