Also, among diehard BB fans, they tend to underrate pre-Pet Sounds and they underrate Pet Sounds itself. The diehards rank their records from 1967-73 much higher. To those fans, “Brian Wilson was the sole musical great in the band” is a very hard thing to sell.

The thing is, when you talk about the entire history of the genre, the Beach Boys main time of influence on rock ends in 1967. But the BB story was far from over as far as making great music goes. For that, you need a BB-specific podcast. Sail On is the best of the BB podcasts.
