Actual canon: “each of the Dúnedain carried … a small phial of cordial and wafers of a waybread that would sustain life in him for many days - not indeed the miruvor or the lembas of the Eldar, but like them, for the medicine and other arts of Númenor were potent and not yet forgotten. “

My own 19th & early 20th C ancestors, by any measure poor peasants, had a flourishing culture of songs and storytelling. Medieval people should have had something like that (tho folk culture in post 1600 Ireland was greatly enriched by absorbing the bardic tradition after the fall of Gaelic chiefs)

I suspect Miles Cameron’s fantasy is a lot closer to what it was like (but then, he’s historical fiction writer Christian Cameron not-really-in-disguise). The centrality of belief and of oaths stand out.

Michelle West’s Sun Sword series and linked House War series - very different cosmology but has the same kind of stakes, and layers of detailed world building inc. ancient backstory that we see in glimpses.

The classical comparison made me think of Úrchill an Creagán but from the corpus there are TONS of songs with the classical comparisons, poets showing off their learning.
Also reminded that I should buy myself a copy of this which seems to be back in print cic.ie/shop/leabhai...

Searching Foclóir Gaeilge–Béarla (Ó Dónaill) for the last line Dréimireach = ladder-like OR wavy if of hair Camarsach = wavy (sensing a theme here) Banachas = housewifery and presumably toughlach is teaghlach, home, household Wavy haired super housekeeper? 🤔

A search for similar (in other songs) in corpas.ria.ie produces
“Fós Diana do threascair Actéon
'S gan dearmad ainnir an Chairn sa' tSléibhe”
So 1st line there must have “ainnir” and verb in 2nd must be an abbreviated “threascair”, vanquishes. Also found “daisibh”, seems to = a heap.
Knocked him!

I’m pretty sure they are, but just don’t say so on the packet. Look for a more “mainstream” brand like Roma (i.e. not premium imported Italian) and see if the packet instructions just refer to assembling the lasagne without cooking.

LinkedIn makes it absurdly easy to accidentally spam all your contacts from your phone in your pocket. I did it once when out for a Christmas walk. So whenever I get requests I first suspect something similar has happened

The same occurred to me. Also that Ireland was a great example of how the system that England had didn’t work and/ or wasn’t operated in the same way. (I could still tell you which one of the local landlords in my home area behaved decently during the Famine, waived rents and organised relief)

Ní dóigh liom é - tá Céad-aoin ann sa Ghaeilge ón 9ú aois (800í AD) ar a laghad. Ach tá neart focail eile ó na Normannaigh sa teanga - an t-ainm Seán (seachas Eoin), an focal seomra

If I understand the visual properly, it’s not correct for Manx which should flow from Irish and Scottish Gaelic not from Welsh and Breton.

Have never found the one I really wanted to read again. Name was something like the The Long Summer but not the Louise Fitzhugh book. US, brother and sister, a cousin comes to stay. The girl is always called Sis rather than her name (a bit like the vibe with the children in To Kill a Mockingbird).

I can think of at least one 20th C Felix, also pronounced like that, in my home place in Co. Cavan. It seems to have been an alternative anglicisation of Felim (usually made into Philip).

You can look up townlands alphabetically by county here www.townlands.ie/sligo/ - I looked through Sligo but I don’t see any better candidates that those already suggested.
The first element could also be Béal an ___ so in the anglicised lists I’d look at Bel- as well as Balli- and Bally-
