Also, loudly refuting a fact because you don’t like who told you is not “waiting for further confirmation”. I could go on at length about how much the Catholic Church allowed abuse because such charges were often leveled against religious of all faiths by 20th C regimes.

Footnote: that’s far from the one and only reason the Church did as it did. But it was why it was possible for some otherwise good people in critical positions to disbelieve accusations when they came up the line.

Just because the messenger hangs out with some evil people doesn’t mean they’re lying, or wrong. You’re allowed to ask questions. You’re not allowed to minimize very serious allegations by ad hominem.
