We got here IN PART by tolerating massive expansion of the executive under 3 successive presidencies. And a lot of us ignored it when it was our guy doing that expansion because he was the good guy and the last guy did it too.

Absolutely. Gun control is another clear case where the vast majority supports one position and our reps won’t pursue it. My point isn’t that “both sides do it!!” But that our political dysfunction goes beyond even this, in ways that are potentially catastrophic. Moreover —

Yes. And. The issue in this country is that almost every issue is so close to 50/50 that at this point, a sizeable chunk of people feel that is the case. But on opposite sides. And on many issues, they’re both right (on the representative democracy, not in the issue itself.)

If more comes forward I am more than willing to reassess and I’m certainly not coming to a conclusion right now. I’m a survivor who was raped 3-4 times a week from the ages of 14-16. I believe women. I distrust those with a long history of dehumanizing others.

This ruling is terrible and has awful consequences but ironically, presidential immunity isn’t the worst of it and it’s not novel. Again: Obama murdered US citizens and nobody went to jail.
