Thats definitely my plan, I'm just worried that the soft cloth will be hard for me to keep stretched properly while I hand sew it compared to the embroidered patches and it'll come out looking shitty

bulldog clips and attaching it to something solid like a bread board can help there. depending on the size of what you're sewing, you might need a few stitches in the middle to stop it billowing out too.
