The precarious partisan balance also makes it hard to trumpet wins, because it risks shifting the political calculus. E.g., in order to achieve Green New Deal goals, AOC abandoned the GND label because the label alone increased opposition.

They exist for federal employees! They’re just lying to make their interpretation of sec. 666 seem plausible. You can’t tip your mail carrier $21, let alone $13,000! about.usps.com/postal-bulle...

darth, I know her intended sentiment is the actually worst part, but I can’t get over how self-defeating her point is regardless. If the work your invention is doing shouldn’t have been done in the first place, then you shouldn’t have invented your invention!

Or have one of your kids again? Send out a birth announcement with a photo of your oldest on it, see if someone has the guts to point out that they’re not a baby.

Wait, really? I’ve followed my favorite writers who are on here, and most of them rarely post (and a number aren’t here at all), and I’ve tried the feeds I’ve been able to find, and still have discovered many accounts. Serious, honest question: where is the best of baseball Twitter on here?

Maybe this is obvious, but my cynical take is that all these so-called security policies are purely to goose concession sales. None of them existed 10 years ago, and I sure don’t remember any precipitating crime wave.

I miss Baseball Twitter a ton, and it super bums me out that it’s still there, but I refuse to let it pull me back in.

Every time I encounter a David Strathairn homage organically, I am required to watch Sneakers with 48 hours. It’s a blessing disguised as a curse.

I worry it might be impossible to recreate the fortuitous timing of the growth of Baseball Twitter where relatively diverse voices became part of the conversation before reply guys were such a completely repulsive force. (Not to downplay what people had to deal with even then.)

It’s definitely super-weird no matter what, but the same basic logic of refutation applies to Ohtani’s version too, because how the transfers happened is going to come out with a fairly high level of certainty. One or the other has made a pretty big gamble….

It’s also not an accurate representation of the response. You have a big audience. Please consider providing context (or even just point people to the source) instead of just amplifying a selective quote. www.npr.org/2024/02/29/1...

I’m just a listener, so I don’t really know, but I get the sense podcasting is particularly fraught in this regard. So much of the engagement is either from listeners who cross boundaries because of the parasocial relationship or trolls who don’t view anyone on the internet as human.

There is no conflict between the Atlantic’s fact-checking and the skepticism. The Atlantic confirmed that the author told someone at the time that it happened, which is a reasonable level of fact-checking for this type of anecdote, but doesn’t mean it actually happened the way it’s described.

I find it creepy masquerading as cutesy. The Mini’s “All done. You solved the clues.” gives me strong The Snowman vibes.

Other than being a fan, I have zero connection to the people involved, so can’t speak to that. (Anyone with a connection is unlikely to jump in, see above re: lack of DMs.) I just know they’ve managed to remain pseudonymous longer than just about anyone and I have to believe prefer it that way.

One of the bummers about not having DMs is not having a private place to suggest to y’all that people who are pseudonymous generally have their reasons, and purporting to blow up their spot (especially by supposed fans) really kinda sucks.

I always interpreted Pawnee PR to be primarily satirizing the public radio *audience* (which is why the Bat-Man joke lands, to me). Just targeting the hosts, as it sounds like this new show does, seems to me both lazy and pointless.
