We’re having a “clear out freezer and liquor cabinet before leaving for a year” party, so I’ve thawed, spatchcocked, and am grilling two chickens from the depths of our deep freezer. Later there will be pina coladas.

Our neighborhood is having a little 4th of July gathering in the park. I’m normally not one to complain about young people and their lack of patriotism or civic knowledge, but I heard a kid say something truly shocking that I needed to share: “Doritos suck.” I’m horrified.

Multi-ethnic civic patriotism is the only good kind of patriotism, and it’s a big part in why I feel such a sense of fulfillment in being an immigration lawyer.

For France, there are specific dedicated constituencies for French abroad. Is that true in the UK, or are you tied to a constituency back there?

We’re about to head to Paris for the year for my (French-American dual citizen) wife’s sabbatical. She just voted online for the National Assembly, and then we’re going to mail our ballots back to Wisconsin in November. The online is very convenient, but actually sticking it in a mailbox is fun.

Orderly and transparent. Something like "I am fit for the presidency. I understand that there are concerns about my cont fitnessfor a grueling campaign & another 4 years in office. Given the stakes, this cannot be allowed to be a distraction. Consquently, VP Harris has my full confidence"

With the overturn of Chevron & its intended destruction of the regulatory state, & the immunity decision, I've been thinking a lot about Kershaw's concept of "working toward the Fuhrer" - privately loyal guys who aren't given explicit orders, but instead allowed to anticipate, & then given cover.

Yeah, but the patchwork regime exists now as a result of this. It does need to be met head on, but making it difficult to function is also good (and will also help lots of people, if it slows down things environmental deregulation)

Obviously the solution is political, not legal, but in the event of a second Trump Admin left-leaning states & lawyers still need to use the overturn of Chevron, & Dem judges, to clog as much of this as possible. If Roberts wants to be a super Parliament we can at least try to McConnell it

Seeing lots of stuff about how the RN would be the first “non-mainstream” party to gain power in the 5th Republic, and first far-right party to do so in France since WWII - which is wrong, since this is clearly now the mainstream right party in France. Not great!
