Yup, this is it. They're giving it a few days to play out, for acceptance to sink in that this isn't getting turned around, for him to take his one last futile swing at it. White House has basically already telegraphed it's radical change this week or he's done, and radical change ain't happening.

He’s given very energetic public rallies, has record jobs numbers still, and will most likely do great in this widely-publicized interview. It’s the consent manufacturers at the NYT that are killing his campaign

The interview will probably be fine. But what's that going to accomplish? For one thing, it's a much smaller audience than the debate. But even if he does great, showing he's *sometimes* with it isn't the problem. He has to show he's always or at least nearly always OK, and that's impossible.
