Becoming a Scrappy Joe stan account.
The idea that the party could pass over/reject Harris and not lose the Black vote - especially the votes of Black women who have been a force behind victories for Democrats - in droves, for decades, boggles my mind.

I’d love to see more of a “Team Democrats” approach run alongside individual campaigns - then again, I’m in the “Vote Blue No Mstter Who” camp.

Maybe it’s my MN perspective, but I’m a little surprised there isn’t more talk about possible parallels to the election after Sen. Paul Wellstone’s death mid-campaign. What should have been a lock (sympathy, Mondale, MN) was derailed in no small part by one eulogy and a screwy ballot process.

And when they talked about their related expertise and history, you came back with history not being an exact match (which it rarely is) and whatabout these guys - whereas a meaningful discussion point might have been, “Can you elaborate on…”

When they replied about their experience and belief that they were attempting to be dispassionate, you replied that they were “confident that your opinion is fact so anyone who disagrees is stupid” - not really an opening for meaningful discourse.

Kind feels like your replies to @saysceej.bsky.social are proving your own point about folks not being able to have a dispassionate discussion.

And I don’t believe that the constitution guarantees us a candidate or party that we like - these days, it barely provides us with the right to vote.

It seems that Will’s point can co-exist with your points and that all three can exist along with the the fact that the coverage has been overblown and extremely one-sided.

As I’m I’m trying to stuff myself back into the closet, I’m going to be mightily annoyed at anyone left of center blaming Biden because he wasn’t inspiring enough to earn their vote. It’s not an effing bake-off show.

Right? If mental acuity is an issue, it’s an issue for both candidates - maybe Trump even more so.

Vote blue no matter who - barring the candidate being a closet Nazi, I’ll vote for them in the general election no matter how many feet they are into the grave.

Has anyone done a fact-based analysis on what the legal landscape looks like re: Biden stepping aside? Whether it’s a Harris/Someone ticket or a Someone/Somebody ticket, what happens with ballot access and already donated funds in the Biden/Harris coffers?

And as to the rise from the ashes of a better party than the Democrats - if it hasn’t been accomplished under the objective benefits of an ordered society, what is it that makes people believe it will happen from, and not be crushed by, chaos?
Serious question.

You can certainly use that vote to “burn it all down” - but if that happens, you personally bear at least some responsibility for the pain and suffering that follows.
It is our government, acting on our behalf whether we agree with the party in control and their policies or not.

The Democrats are currently (and for the foreseeable future) our only means to accomplish that end peacefully.
And it is our role, as voters, to vote - the constitution neither guarantees us the right to a candidate that we love nor a party that aligns with our political objectives.

Equally annoying/important is the false idea that it’s the Democrats responsibility to defeat Trump. It’s not. It’s our (the US voters) responsibility to defeat Trump.

I’m trying to find solace in the belief that no one on his team (or Dr. Biden) would have let him on that stage if his day-to-day abilities were as bad as his debate performance - it would be a hell of a lot easier to believe that if he were out *every day* since the debate proving his competence.

So theoretically a President could use the military to assassinate elected and appointed officials (legislative and judicial, federal and state) to pave the way to unfettered authoritarianism?

I am quite irked at the folks who were never going to vote for Biden but are advocating that he must step aside and his supporters must vote for his unnamed replacement - without any trace of irony or acknowledgement of the hypocrisy.
It’s more annoying than Biden’s debate performance.

Interesting - I see her 180 turnabout from her rhetoric as a primary candidate to her embrace and endorsement of him as quite debasing. I’m not quite sure how she could go lower - full on nazism probably isn’t a realistic option for her, although I do not doubt that she would embrace it if it was.
