Our company has just been approved as a direct debit initiator. The process for setting up an authority is get the form from the client, then physically send it to their bank. No electronic system. Had to buy stamps, this is the first mail I've sent for close to 10 years.

Here in Invercargill I only tend to notice the Fiordland ones when they hit over 7 or so, so haven't felt one for ages. AF8 is going to be "fun" but at least I'm not in Canterbury or the West Coast....

Three seems to have done something with their codec during Newshub this evening. Blip at the end of one item which messed up Mediaportal (have to skip it in the transport stream to keep watching) and picture quality now absolute pants.

That was just one minor reason among many bigger ones of course. But if you employ someone to manage a division and support clients, and get them to write their own contract so there's no restraint of trade, maybe review their salary, consider their offer to buy in and don't piss then off!

I went to the gym for a bit, enjoyed it, signed up for 12mo... then my employer decided that even though I was on a salary and worked the required hours he didn't want me to take 90min lunches 3 times a week. So started my own business, never looked back, but never had time to go to the gym again!

December 2019 - both legs of the Chorus fibre were cut at the Rangitata River. No mobile or broadband (so no VOIP) from South Canterbury south. It was a Saturday and things were up about 12 hours later but wasn't fun! Would have picked up a Voda SIM on Sunday if it hadn't come up.

Nice of Mediaworks to have a draw on their survey to pay rent or mortgage for a month.
After 25 years we paid off our mortgage in 2020.
No option in the terms to assign it, say to the kids for their mortgage.
Did the survey anyway because the answers might help @cateowen.bsky.social.

So turns out Mainland Taxis are dodgy. $13.50 from the airport turned into a $35 "minimum charge." That extra time is going to be very useful to file a complaint with NZTA (seeing Mainland don't seem to have any contact details online).

I was born in the early 70s and the threat of power cuts only ever seemed like an Auckland thing - never an issue in the south. My dad remembers shortages earlier but they were basically resolved when Roxburgh came online.

So today started with discovering Starlink had broken IKE VPNs from every site using them, continued with WatchGuard not working out why TLS BOVPNs weren't working, and finished with HPE not resolving an issue with a new server that I logged in the 3rd. There are many days where I hate IT.
