I’m positive those people exist. The “We’re #1! We’re #1” politico-sports fans who just support their team in this reality show TV competition who maybe don’t get there is something more going on here actually exist.

When I was born, most comics were $0.20. When I first started reading comics, most were $0.60. Six years later, when I stopped reading comics because “I was too old”, most were $1.00. When I got over that notion and came back to comics, most were $2.50. Now, most are $3.99. That’s a fast climb.

This what I feel like is is sorely missing from modern Marvel. Those soap elements are what ran through titles for years and created a hook for the reader. Nowadays, it all feels like a series of mostly unrelated short stories.

As true as that is, there is much in the comics culture and business that needs change. Change doesn’t happen without attention. Worst case, without the attention and change, it just dies. I hope somebody can find a way to make that kind of coverage work.

Back in the days before tennis became a professional sport, it was seen as unseemly for the amateur players to put too much into winning. You didn’t want to show too much effort; after all, they were the upper-class and this was just a pastime. That feels like how the Dems are approaching this.

So much of the current comics coverage sites are limited to just passing on PR releases for upcoming work; they just don’t have the manpower/funding/interest to do much more. Seems like something TCJ would cover, though.

The Cobra Twins knew what was up. They were constantly suggesting back door takeovers through corporations and financing. If they’d overthrown Cobra Commander and taken over they’d have five Supreme Court Justices, a huge media stake, tech slush, and Tomax (no scar) would be running for reelection

I can't just this second think of another weird one-off phrase that has so embedded itself in the English language like "jump the shark" has. I'd think that most people would have no idea whence it came had they not been specifically told.

My least favorite thing about Apple Music (really ALL modern music streaming services) is that it seems very focused on random play or playlists over albums. I want to view, find, and listen to music by album.

It seems new (at least to me), but I guess these people were always around but knowing they would be shamed kept them silent. Starting around 2016 they started getting emboldened to stop hiding it. They didn’t worry the same about being outed as a racist when they could say “it’s just politics.”

I searched online and found various sites saying it was Pizza Hut who gave out the Uncle Scrooge placemat and that kickstarted my memory. Mine did come from Pizza Hut.

I had the Uncle Scrooge one when I was little. That would have been the late-70s but I have no idea where it came from, but a fast food restaurant seems likely.
