I think spending a couple of years existing almost entirely online and simmering in our own stress hormones while millions of people died behind iPad screens may have had long-term detrimental effects on our ability to relate sensibly to others

Just went through a convocation where the chancellor blithely commended the grads on their resilience and I couldn’t help but wonder “who’s missing?”
It seems impossible that it wouldn’t, yeah. And of course it would be totally impossible to unpick the various strands of 2024 communication, I just have these creeping structural theories haunting me.
I think authoritarian social patterns and especially parenting methods mean a lot of people never learn another way to relate to the world, social media mostly just makes that more visible.
