The fact that the 2D visibility function (complex product of the voltage) of a radio interferometer is the Fourier transform of the sky brightness (convolved with the antenna beam), has always charmed me. Just sample this weirdly abstract plane and piece together what the sky looks like.

so the hip pain I'd been dealing with for almost two months is a good deal better, due to assorted needles, but it seems that my leg muscles have learned to limp and now I'm literally lurching and spinning about when I try to walk. At least people hold the door for me now...

I try to remember that I never get annoyed with someone who is learning English and trying their best to talk to me, and hope that most people are the same way when I try to speak theirs. Except the French, they'll have none of it...

Forks go towards the back, spoons towards the front, because otherwise they'll attack me when I put other things in. And gingerly remove the whole basket and carry it to the drawer when it's done.

I'm having trouble visualizing how these people's brains operate. It seems that they spend a lot of time imagining secret penises busting loose and bouncing around willy-nilly in women's bathrooms, like superballs.
