He had more name recognition than the others in the large primary field, and so got to be in the center in the debates with more speaking time and focus. I'd wondered if he hadn't been treated like the front-runner from the outset if he would have won. That plus his image of success, which persists.

I don't know if Georgia's legislature or their appointed boards of governors are doing like UNC's, but the law school may have been pressured to do this or risk losing funding or having the program shut down. The NCGA shut down several centers like the one under Gene Nichols. It is an outrage.

A lot of the same people who don't want migrants also don't want to address climate change (or want to make it worse), when making huge, populated areas uninhabitable might just make things worse in that respect.

It's also frustrating that people decide not to vote because Biden isn't using powers he doesn't have. If we get more dems and rationale independents in office, then we could get change. A 1 vote margin is good, but a bigger margin would mean a Manchin couldn't thwart progress.

Mine was Mario Cuomo, and he gave a very good speech, not too long, uplifting, not vain. My nephew's was the then NC AG, now Gov Roy Cooper, who similarly gave a good, upbeat, not overly long speech. I was worried my nephew's dad, a Republican, would be upset by it, but it was utterly non-partisan.

Yes - funds to build a posh building, no funds to maintain older buildings. Plus federal research funding has administrative costs. To scale up internal research grant funding mechanisms to replace $1B/yr federal and maintain the quality level would have huge overhead costs.

It'd be nice if Biden would say even once that there's no place for Islamophobia and that Palestinians are humans with human rights. Antisemitism is evil, Jewish people have human rights, of course. Hamas's 10/7 attack was an abomination. So are 34000 dead, utter destruction and deprivation in Gaza.
