It's basically another layer of management responsible for this nebulous "Quality". It's mainly useful if you're answerable to a regulatory authority for audits.

Oh I work for one of the institutions that make the norms (not ISO, a national organisation, but we do a lot of work on the ISO-level, running secretariats of committees etc.), and the 9001 isn't my wheelhouse, i'm mostly on machinery, IT and transport/vehicles
