If Biden were to actually resign from office and let Harris succeed him as President for the remaining half year of his current term, I wonder whether incumbency might boost her chances of beating Trump in November.

Having seen the first female President sworn into office could help undecided voters get over the hump of having a hard time imagining such a paradigm shift. And watching her serve competently in that capacity would erase the perception of her as an ineffectual Vice President.
