Yup! The exact details vary from state to state, but almost every state does it. Florida recently charged a woman who got out in six months over $100000, because they charge for the entire sentence, not actual time served. It's a loathsome system.

Don't forget that in Florida you have to have paid off all legal fees in order to regain your right to vote. So this policy doesn't just bankrupt people & ensure they will never get out of debt, it all but guarantees they will never be able to vote for people who would change it.
