The thing about Cyclops in particular is he is old. In spirit! He both got thrown forward into the future to raise his son for over a decade, and his teenage self got brought forward to hang out for a few years. He may be 28 on paper but he's experienced much more.

He was also raised from a young age to be the proactive, militant leader of not just an entire team of superheroes, but the next evolution of an entire species. Plus, he has literal brain damage. Old in spirit doesn’t begin to cover it!
