TRUTH is a perfect example of working with already existing material. Isaiah Bradley is the first *Captain America*, not Steve Rogers. It's given more weight because of adding nuance to already existing iconography. Not the same if Isaiah Bradley was original creation Major Patriot or something.

But he's not... you know, Bucky. Not a retcon, just an expansion to tell a new story. I think that's where I struggled to get past the nerdy Watchmen continuity and into the narrative. It was just too concerned with the old characters. Its new ideas were consistently more interesting to me.
